In the middle…A Time to Rest – A Letter to Myself!

Dear Cheri,

Take a deep breath! You’re doing ok! You knew this journey would be one step at a time! And this step, is about rest. It’s about giving yourself time for reflection. It’s about pausing and letting yourself do nothing and knowing it’s okay.

Remember when you made this decision to change your life? You said you wanted to pursue your passion for travelling regardless of what other people thought about this plan. You were willing to change your lifestyle and give up many of the material things that were holding you back. Cheri, you took that first step by getting rid of those things. You sold your furniture, gave possessions away to family and friends, and took carloads to Goodwill. Kudos! It was tough making some of those decisions about what to keep and what to give away wasn’t it? But you did it!

Then, you faced your family, friends, and work pals in Colorado and said good-bye. That wasn’t easy either was it? You lived there for seventeen years and had many bonds. Your sons live there along with your granddaughter. But you recognized you can never be whole without pursuing your dream. And so, you shed the tears that are always a part of the process, loaded your car with your few remaining belongings, and headed out to Tennessee to be near your mom and sisters and brothers. With no job, no real plan other than to travel, you took not just a step, but a leap of faith.

So here you are….in Tennessee, with family, and doing ok. That’s right – you’re fine! You have a place to live, people around you who care,  and resources for travelling after the first of the year. For now though, you must rest. You must research where you want to go and when, stay in contact with those people you met on your previous journeys, and continue to believe in yourself. Keep the faith that you know what’s best for you! Continue to open your heart and trust that you have something to offer to the world. Above all, relax and recognize that one foot will always follow the other…even when the pace is slower!

    Hi Cheri,
I just found your blog via the AONC blog. Just wanted to say ‘Congrats’ on having the courage to pursue your dreams. I just turned 51 yesterday and I totally relate to the mixed emotions associated with leaving behind your ‘comfort zone’. I wish you many happy adventures along your new path!!
